When an area of the coat is parted open, you can see all the hairs matted together.  You can see the skin because we have already separated the hair here.

This is another example of the hair matted together.

Although difficult to see in this picture, we have separated the hair into 6 different mats.  If you were to part open the hair around this area, you would see many more mats that have been separated.  At this stage it all kind of blends or webs together but you can feel the different clumps of hair with your fingers.

This is a little easier to see the 3 separate mats that have been made.

A close up of 2 separate mats.  Remember, the mats are not very defined at this stage.  The hair is still very webbed and it needs time to grow out before you will see more detail in the shape.
